I Broke Up With My Bathroom Scale

I am thankful for my bathroom scale. It showed me a number I hadn't seen since I was pregnant, which kicked my butt into high gear. I have been working out since July. I haven't made major changes to my diet, but I am more mindful about what I put into my body and how much.

I was weighing myself a couple of times a week. After several encounters with the scale not displaying what I felt were reasonable digits, I got a little discouraged. Not long after that, though, I was able to get into my skinny jeans. Some size "L" yoga pants I'd gotten from a friend were no longer rolling down.

On a recent trip, I came out of the airport bathroom and proudly reported to my traveling companions that I was able to pull my skinny jeans down without even unbuttoning them! I was so excited!

I also noticed that my legs are prettier. There is an actual curve between my ankles and my calves. My thighs don't tend to chafe like they used to. My face looks narrower in photographs. I have 1 1/2 chins instead of 2!

All this to say, sometimes we need to measure our success by a different yard stick. My bathroom scale is a big, fat, ugly liar. The skinny jeans don't lie, my friends! Keep on keepin' on.

How To Get Over a Weightloss Plateau

Has this ever happened to you:

You've been sweating buckets for months now. You've tracked every morsel you put in your mouth. You've done cardio and strength training. Perhaps you saw great progress in the early weeks of your fitness program. You were thrilled when you went down a pant size, ecstatic to hit that first ten pound milestone. All of a sudden, you notice you're still wearing the same pair of pants. They're not fitting any looser and the scale hasn't budged.

It's called a weight-loss plateau. It happens to everyone who is trying to make healthier choices and change their life for the better. These plateaus are very discouraging! One way to get over that hump is to try a cleanse of some sort. Team Beach Body Recommends the Ultimate Reset.

What is the Beachbody Ultimate Reset?

The Beachbody Ultimate Reset is a comprehensive, no-starvation, inner body tune-up. In just 21 days, it can help you gently restore your body to a healthy state. Test group participants reported:
  •   More energy & ability to focus
  •  Improved digestion
  •  A more positive mood
  •  Increased weight loss
  • Improvement in overall health and sense of well-being
  • Overcome weight-loss plateaus
Why Try the Ultimate Reset?

Our environment is becoming increasingly toxic. As our bodies absorb pollution and harmful chemicals, these toxins can get stored in our bodies, clog our cells and slow down the body's functions.

What the Beachbody Ultimate Reset is NOT:
• A starvation diet. (You'll eat three filling, healthy meals every day.)
• An abrupt cleanse that's hard on the body. (The supplements work together gradually to gently shift your body's internal settings.)*
• A laxative-based, colon-focused cleanse, which fails to truly detoxify the whole body. (You won't be running to the bathroom every hour!)

To learn more, such as what to expect during the Reset, and read testimonials from trial group participants, go to my Team Beach Body web site and click on the Beachbody Ultimate Reset banner.

Team Beach Body: It's a Lifestyle, Not a Diet!

Why do so many diets fail? In my opinion, the word diet, in and of itself, reflects the wrong mindset for success. A diet is usually temporary. "Oh, I can't eat that because I'm on a diet." Oh really? Then what? When you reach your goal weight, then it's o.k.?

Instead of a diet attitude, let's focus on achieving and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. That includes eating healthier foods, in reasonable quantities. It entails going to bed earlier, and getting plenty of rest. We should also incorporate exercise and movement into our daily lives. Not just setting aside time to workout, but doing more active things, such as:
  • Not searching for the closest parking spot at the grocery store. Park further away and walk a little more.
  • Take a walk after dinner, instead of vegging out on the couch.
  • Go roller skating for date night instead of dinner and a movie (buttered popcorn, etc.!)
  • Playing with the kids outside instead of plopping them in front of the TV.
  • Desk jockeys can get up and do 10 reps of jumping jacks, squats, or other activity every hour or so during the work day.
These are just a few suggestions. This is the mind shift I am working on personally to help me achieve my goals. I am not a doctor, nurse, nutritionist, or personal trainer. I'm just a soon to be fit mommy and wife, sharing her thoughts and ideas!

Have a beautiful day!

Attidude Isn't Everything

A positive attitude is very important. It will help get a person through the tough times. A positive outlook increases one's chances for success. However, attitude isn't everything. Success is about taking action.

When I talk about success, that means both big and small successes! Some days, just getting the laundry done is a success! By done, I mean completely folded and put away! Washed, dried, and left in a pile on the couch does not count as done. I can have a positive attitude toward the chore of doing laundry. I can plan to do it. I can even write it on my calendar! But, if I don't take action and follow through, I will not be successful at that task.

This is an important realization I am having in my own life. I have had a bad habit of putting things into my Google calendar, complete with reminders that pop up on my phone. That's all well and good, until I snooze or dismiss the reminder!

I recently let my husband down with a couple of tasks he had asked me to do. I felt terrible. I honestly wanted to help him and take these simple tasks that I could do off of his plate. He asked me for status this morning...because he had already done them. The only way to never feel that way again is to take action, NOW. It's going to take time to break old habits, but it starts with being aware of the problem, and refusing to stay the same!

Have a great day!

It's About Way More Than Getting in Shape

The purpose of Success Coach Sara is more than people joining me on my journey to get in shape. It's about improving in all areas of our life. Just fixing one area of life is not going to instantly make us successful. Success is about doing something, every single day, to improve in all aspects:

  • Physical Health- To me this involves making healthy choices about what I put in my mouth, and spending time daily doing some kind of physical activity.
  • Spiritual Health- To me this means spending time in God's word and listening to uplifting music.
  • Mental Health - To me this means clearing mental space by getting organized, writing things down, using a calendar, making lists, and reading books, magazines, blogs, etc. that will strengthen my mind.
  • Healthy Relationships (friends, family, co-workers, strangers...)- To me, this includes making time to call family who lives far away, and planning for trips to visit them. It involves taking steps daily to be a better wife, mother, daughter, and sister. It means being a better listener and following up on issues in the lives of those who are important to me.
This blog is about what I am doing in the above areas to improve and become a better me. I hope you will join me! How can you join me?

My Team Beach Body Story, Part 1

About mid-2012, I stepped on my bathroom scale and was shocked by the digits glaring back at me. 2-0-0. That can't be right! I stepped off, then back on again. Same three numbers. One more time, I stepped off, removing all my clothes. 199.6. If you round that up, what do you get? The same, ugly 200!

I decided then and there it was time to shed the "baby weight." As in, the only other time I weighed that much was when I was pregnant, three and a half years earlier. The lowest I had gotten down to since having my daughter was my pre-pregnancy weight of 194. I started looking for fun ways to exercise. I found some great workouts online and took time out of my day to do them.

One of the workouts I had been looking at and thinking a lot about was the Team Beach Body workouts, such as Turbo Jam, Brazil Butt Lift, and Hip Hop Abs. I don't watch many commercials lately, thanks to our DVR, so Turbo Jam and Hip Hop Abs came to mind from a few years ago. They always looked so fun to me! Brazil Butt Lift was getting a lot of air time lately, so I had caught the commercial a couple of times.

I remembered that a long time acquaintance was a Team Beach Body Coach. I messaged her and she added me to her healthy lifestyle accountability group on FaceBook. She also told me it was free to sign up on the Team Beach Body website, so I did that too. I enjoyed reading others' success stories and dreamed about my own.

I joined a 90 day Turbo Fire challenge group. I found I couldn't always get through the entire workout. I needed breaks, sometimes long breaks to get through the whole thing. But, I was committed. I had decided that I was sick and tired of being sick and tired. I know it's a cliche now, but it's so true. I was tired of not having any energy at the end of my work day. Mind you, I sit at a desk all day! How tired could I possibly be?! You would be surprised!

There's more to the story, mainly because it's just getting started. Soon I will write it as if it's already happened. I say happened instead of finished, because the story of a healthy lifestyle should never really end, until the very end. What I mean is, I will write a post about how it feels to get to my goal weight and what my life looks like when I get there.
